'I ndíl gcuimne Óglaigh Cathal Ó Monacháin. Donal Sheehan, Con Keating. Twas on Good Friday morning before the break of day, A German who was signaling way out there in the bay, with 10000 rifles already for to hand, but no signal did come from the lonley Banna Strand. And the wild wind sings their requiem on this lonely Banna Strand.' The mural features portraits of Roger Casement and Charlie Monahan. The Banna Strand forms the backdrop and a celtic cross is shown with pikes, the starry plough and Irish tricolour flags and the lark flies above the beach. The mural is surrounded by celtic interlace. Mural painted by Danny Devenny. |

Description: |
Close-up of 'Sir Roger Casement' portrait surrounded by celtic interlace stencil. Casement was a former Brtish Diplomat (knighted in 1911) and Irish Revolutionary and was hanged for treason at the age of 51 on 3rd August 1916 in Pentonville Prison. He was captured on Banna Strand on April 21st 1916 after trying to land arms from the German vessel Libau disguised as a Norwegian vessel, Aud Norge. He was repatriated and buried in the Republican plot in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin in 1965. |
