Four man republican firing party with a coffin draped in the tricolour. Crests of the four provinces of Ireland. 'Vol. Joseph Downey, Vol. Brendan Davison and Vol. Tony Nolan'. Joseph Downey was a 23-year-old IRA volunteer shot dead by the British Army during a gun battle on Cromac Street in 1973. Brendan Davison was a 33-year-old IRA volunteer shot by the UVF in Friendly Street in 1988. This mural has been used frequently by the BBC when discussing IRA decommissioning. Robert McCrudden was a 19-year-old IRA Volunteer shot by the army during a gun battle in the Ardoyne in 1972. Mundo O'Rawe was a 27-year-old IRA volunteer shot in 1973 off the Falls. Pearse Jordan was a 21-year-old IRA Volunteer shot by an undercover RUC unit on the Falls road in 1992. |
