Draft List of Deaths Related to the Conflict in 2014

The following page has been compiled by Martin Melaugh to complement the Index of Deaths (1969-2001) by Malcolm Sutton. The information below is in draft form and should be treated with some caution. Some of the deaths listed below may be shown later to be unrelated to the conflict.

2014

18 April 2014	Tommy Crossan (43) Catholic Status: Civilian (Civ), Killed by: Unknown Shot dead at a fuel depot off the Springfield Road, west Belfast. [The media reported that Crossan was a former member of the Continuity IRA. The PSNI stated "Mr Crossan was known to police" and "One line of inquiry centres on individuals or groups who would associate themselves with dissident groupings". (See: BBC.)]
24 October 2014	Edward Gibson (28) Catholic Status: Civilian (Civ), Killed by: Unknown Shot in thigh and stomach, and mortally wounded, in an alleyway beside Divis Tower, west Belfast. He died in hospital shortly afterwards. [Although not naming the victim, the PSNI Security Statistics for 2014 lists one security-related killing in October 2014. (See PSNI report.)]

In most cases the photographs were taken by a member of the family, a relative or a friend. At the time the photographs were provided to the local media, the name of the photographer was not recorded. No payment was made for the photograph. In some cases the original image was never returned.
