Exhibition and associated activities:War-Torn Children
Description: This Conflict Textiles exhibition of arpilleras, photographs and reproduced illustrations, commissioned by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council (CCGBC) Museum Service highlights the devastating impact of war on children, their families and communities.

It was first exhibited at the Linen Hall Library, Belfast, 1st March - 15th April 2017. Since then it has been on display at the CB1 Gallery, Limerick (commissioned by Doras Luimní), 17th – 28th July at the Verbal Arts Centre, Derry/Londonderry, 3rd – 27th October, 2017 and at the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, 8th February 2018 - 24th March 2018. Exhibiting it in the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre marks the final stage of its journey in 2018.

The arpilleras are drawn from Conflict Textiles, the framed photographs from Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc (Catalonia) and the reproduced illustrations are from the book “Anne – An imagining of the life of Anne Frank”.

Partners to this initiative are CAIN (Conflict Archive on the INternet), at Ulster University and the Linen Hall Library Belfast.

The exhibition opens at 12 noon on 5th September and incorporates a guided tour.

A total of eight workshops will be hosted as part of the exhibition programme.
1) Thursday 20th September, 2 - 5pm; workshop for general public, facilitated by Roberta Bacic
2) Friday 5th October, workshop for textile artists, facilitated by textile artist Eileen Harrisson and guided tour by Roberta Bacic, 12noon – 3pm (by invitation only)
3) Wednesday 17th October, workshop for schools, facilitated by Sarah Carson and Roberta Bacic
4) Thursday 18th October, workshop with Bushvalley Primary School (24 students), facilitated by Jamie Austin and Roberta Bacic
5) Thursday 8th November, morning and afternoon workshop with Drumachose Primary School (30 students per workshop), facilitated by Jamie Austin and Roberta Bacic
6) Friday 9th November, workshop for schools, facilitated by Sarah Carson and Roberta Bacic
7) Saturday 24th November, 2 - 5pm FINALE event. Guided tour and workshop for families.

Outcome: 195 pupils from five local schools: Castleroe, Drumachose, Limavady Central and Roe Valley Central Primary Schools, participated in workshops where they viewed the exhibition and learned more about the life of Anne Frank. They also crafted 'a friend for Anne Frank' and completed invitations to take home and invite their parents, siblings, grandparents or friends to come and see their doll within the exhibition. Overall, a total of 9,745 people visited the exhibition with comments such as ‘deeply moving. Thank you for reminding us.’ And ‘Beautiful yet heart-breaking exhibition.’
