Launch & Textile display:Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive women unveiling: Refugee week 2023
Description: The unveiling of Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive women ollective arpillera, marking Refugee Week 2023 (19-25 June) embodies many threads of collaboration. It emerged from a workshop (see p.5-9) in the Void Gallery, Derry/Londonderry, associated to the Mujeres Disruptivas exhibition - Magee Campus Library, Ulster University. Arpilleristas Manoli Garcia Gonzalez and Pilar López from Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc, Badalona, Catalonia (exhibition co-curators with Conflict Textiles) facilitated the workshop as part of their wider visit to Northern Ireland to share their expertise in arpilleras.

The completed collective arpillera incorporates the disruptive element of the exhibition theme, whilst demonstrating solidarity with refugees who have had their lives disrupted.

The unveiling took place at 2pm, Tuesday 20th June, in the Void Gallery Education Space. A number of pieces from the Conflict Textiles collection were also exhibited as part of this event.

Underlining Conflict Textiles focus on Refugee Week 2023, curator Roberta Bacic facilitated a ‘hands on’ textile workshop, 11am – 3pm, Monday 19 June, linked to the solo exhibition by Ghafar Tajmohammad Afghani War Rugs Reimagined, Yorkton workshop, London.
