Ingram, Adam (b. 1 February 1947)
Politician; Labour Party MP; Minister of State at Northern Ireland Office (NIO) 1997-2001

Adam Ingram was born in Glasgow and educated in the city before returning to education through the Open University. Ingram first became involved in politics when he joined the Labour Party and served as a local councillor (1990-87) before being returned as an MP in 1987 for the constituency of East Kilbride (1987-present). With the return of a Labour government following the general election of May 1997 he was appointed Minister of State at the Northern Ireland (NIO) (1997-2001). His responsibilities were to include those for security, prisons and economic development and in March 1998 he was made Minister for Victims. After a cabinet reshuffle in early 2001 he was moved from the NIO and took up a junior position at the Ministry of Defence.
