Rotating exhibition:Conflict Textiles / Ulster University, Belfast - The search for the disappeared
Description: This rotating exhibition is a collaboration between Conflict Textiles Trust and several entities within Ulster University: INCORE, TJI and the John Hume & Thomas P. O'Neill Chair in Peace. It builds on previous collaborations across Ulster University, particularly the rotating exhibition Conflict Textiles collection: Library, Derry ~ Londonderry campus launched in 2020.

Comprised of four arpilleras themed on enforced disappearance, particularly in Chile, this inaugural exhibition marks the fiftieth anniversary of the overthrow of democratically elected Chilean President Salvador Allende in September 1973 and the beginning of the seventeen-year-long Pinochet dictatorship, synonymous with enforced disappearance and human rights abuses.

The seminar Responding to Disappearance in Chile, Northern Ireland and Turkey, a component of the exhibition programme, took place 3pm – 4.30pm, Wednesday 25th October 2023.

The exhibition was launched at 5.30pm on 23rd November, by the Colombian Ambassador to the UK, HE Roy Barreras. The launch took place after the workshop Stitching our Stories: Displacement, Healing, New Possibilities and was part of a broader evening programme connected to his visit to Belfast.
