Loyal Orders |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Loyal Order websites range from the directly political to the exclusively religious. Some Orange Order websites, particularly outside Northern Ireland, explicitly distance themselves from the politics of Northern Ireland while others are dominated by the topic. This list excludes sites with no contemporary political references to Northern Ireland but includes those that, for example, display an orange ribbon in solidarity with the Drumcree Orangemen, link to loyalist or unionist websites or emphasise the Northern Ireland aspect of the Orders by displaying the Northern Ireland flag. It also includes a small number of sites which are not explicitly political but whose guestbooks have attracted significant volumes of political comment. It also includes central official websites even where those sites do not have directly political content. Several of the sites below are unofficial, representing an individual member or a webmaster who does not claim to be running an official site. Several new Orange lodges have been established in the
United States since the first new lodge in 20 years was set up in
Torrance, Southern California in 1998. Some of these new lodges
differ dramatically from older lodges in the US in their willingness
to associate themselves directly with the Orange Order in Northern
Ireland. Their websites are hosted by Orangenet while some of the
sites display Northern Ireland flags and link to material on
contemporary politics in Northern Ireland. By contrast, the older
Orange lodges in the US often deliberately distance themselves from
the Orange Order in Ireland. Contents
