Mapping Troubles-Related Deaths in
Northern Ireland 1969-1994
by Marie Therese Fay, Mike Morrissey and Marie Smyth (1997)
The figures in the following tables
are derived from a new database of deaths compiled by 'The Cost
of the Troubles Study'. The figures cover the period 1969 to
the ceasefires in August 1994. The data include deaths which
occurred outside Northern Ireland, also those which involved military
vehicles, also those deaths which were caused by trauma (such
as a heart-attack) induced by a Troubles related incident. As
such these figures represent the most complete assessment of the
number of people who have died as a result of the Northern Ireland
conflict.
The following table (Table 13) provides
a breakdown of the status of people killed by the organisation
responsible for the killing.
