The photograph shows part of the Springfield Road in West Belfast. The two large buildings in the background are a British Army base and a Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) base. The wall on the left marks the site of the old security force base. Also in the background on the left is part of the 'peace line'. The two new bases were deliberately located on an interface between Catholic and Protestant areas. This helps prevent direct Catholic / Protestant interaction.
