| Exhibition and associated activities: | Threads and Stitches of our Changing Landscape |
| Description: | From airfields to cultivation, turf cutting to wind turbines, prehistoric farmers to 19th century industry, the wider Binevenagh area has witnessed extensive land-use change throughout history. This exhibition will explore how land use change has impacted the environment and introduce some of the work being done by the "Binevenagh and Coastal Lowland Landscape Partnership Scheme" to help restore environmental balance.
As well as objects and artefacts, the exhibition will include a selection of textiles curated by Conflict Textiles, which reflect the environmental and land pressures which face communities around the world.
The exhibition programme will incorporate workshops to guide local groups in creating their own textile pieces which reflect the local environmental concern they feel most strongly about. If you are interested in participating, please contact grace@ccght.org
The exhibition was launched on Friday 7th July at 12noon.
-Guided tours by Conflict Textiles curator Roberta Bacic took place on Monday 7 August at 2pm and Thursday 24 August at 7pm.
-Three textile community workshops were facilitated on Tuesday 19 September, 3 and 17 October.
-Workshops took place within the local primary schools, 16 - 20 September.

| Outcome: | This exhibition programme resulted in multiple outcomes:
-Through the medium of textiles, viewers - particularly those who attended the guided tours - had an opportunity to reflect on the environmental and land pressures which face communities around the world.
-Inspired by the textiles, workshop attendees created textile pieces that reflected the beauty of, and the challenges that face the Binevenagh Landscape. Within these spaces conversations emerged on the blue-green algae issue in local waterways, plastic pollution, coastal erosion, farming practice and the importance of biodiversity in the area. The finished pieces will be sewn together to create one larger textile that will be displayed in the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre in early 2024. This is the the outcome textile Threads and Stitches of Binevenagh, (2024)
- Within the children's workshops (150 children from 7 schools), the textiles provided a focal point for discussing how we can help the environment and protect it in the future. |
