Description: | Here we see a group of people from the Movement Against Torture Sebastián Acevedo (MCTSA) demanding “Punishment to the torturers.” The anti torture movement came into being in September 1983. Two months later, Sebastián Acevedo Becerra, after the arrest of his two children, whom he feared would be tortured, publicly set himself alight. Following his tragic death, the Movement Against Torture added his name to their group to highlight and honour his sacrifice.
In the Chilean National Commission of Truth and Reconciliation, death as a consequence of political violence was how Sebastiáns’ demise was described. Roberta notes that his death: “gave a public acknowledgement of the desperate situation people lived during those years and gave his family the right to reparations.”
(Bacic, 2012) Stitching together nonviolence and “Movement Against Torture, Sebastián Acevedo (MCTSA)”.
