Description:

Roser Corbera made this, her first arpillera, after being part of the I Foro de Arpilleras de Cataluña: Nuestras historias hacen la Historia /First Forum of Arpilleras in Catalonia: Our stories make our History (2011). She based it on a photograph of the organising team.

From the original photograph (attached as a detail below) and from the textile image we can clearly identify (left - right) Roberta Bacic (curator), Salut Torne (art therapist, participating in a personal capacity in the Forum), Neus Bartroli (primary school teacher, Escola Sant Pau de Sant Pol de Mar, Pilar Lopez (coordinator, Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc), Alba Sanfeliu (researcher for Arts and Peace at the School for a Culture of Peace, Barcelona Autonomous University) and Roser herself (communications officer, Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc). The buttons sewn onto checked fabric represent the people who attended the Forum, who took part in workshops and who continue to promote and create arpilleras.

This circular representation of organisers and participants gives a sense of cohesion, movement, continuity and expansion - an apt image indeed for this group which has been prolific in creating arpilleras and linking arpilleristas since 2011.
