The gable wall of Free Derry Corner with some of the murals painted by the Bogside Artists in the backgound. The wall was originally the gable wall of a house on the Lecky Road where many civil rights demonstrations and public meetings were held. There have been a number of attempts to demolish the wall. British soldiers even drove an armoured vehicle into the wall in an effort to topple it. Planners have also tried to have it demolished or moved. Local people have resisted these efforts.
