Exhibition and associated activities:Stitching Peace: An exhibition of Arpilleras and Quilts
Description: This exhibition was commissioned as part of the World Council of Churches International Ecumenical Peace Convocation to mark the end of the Decade to Overcome Violence, which began in 2001. This collection, "Stitching Peace", draws together a selection of arpilleras and quilts from Latin America, Africa and Europe that epitomize some of the important focal points of any discussion of a peaceful society. All the tapestries speak to the social justice concerns that radiate out from violent conflict, such as, poverty, hunger, displacement and unemployment.

Alongside these are quilts that juxtapose the chaos of conflict with the ordinariness of daily life, but reveal the hope that is sustained during times of war. Furthermore, this collection draws on a concept of peace that draws attention to a "bigger picture" of a peaceful society: environmental degradation and quality of life issues, such as domestic violence, migration and debt. It also depicts the use of non-violent actions as a way to address urgent social issues
