Exhibition, Workshops and Associated Activities: | Refugee Week 2025 - Community as a Superpower |
Description: | This very special exhibition marks 2025 International Refugee Week.
It features 8 remarkable embroideries from different parts of the world, recently donated to Causeway Coast and Glens Museum Service by Roberta Bacic, Conflict Textiles' curator. They will be shown for the first time. In addition it includes 11 arpilleras. One held in the Museum Service Collection and the other 10 on loan from the Conflict Textiles collection.
These beautiful & powerful textile works are created by communities in response to conflict in their home countries.
From intricate stitching, handmade dolls to colourful embroidery, each arpillera is a unique creative testament to lives lived without peace. Yet their rich colours, skill and stories capture a joy and beauty that defies the circumstances in which they were created. A wonderful show for textile lovers, peace lovers, all of us and people from all over the world who live in our community and beyond.
EXHIBITION LAUNCH: Saturday 21 June at 12noon | Free Admission | All welcome.
There will be a free arpillera doll workshop for children 8-12 years at 10.30am-12pm & music and dance as part of our launch celebration. |
