Description: | The members of ^ artist collective, supported by The Glens Centre in Manorhamilton, are working on an Irish Hospice Foundation Compassionate Culture Network funded project titled “Waking The Land”. This project explores loss from human, environmental and social perspectives.
As part of the artistic research, the artist collective invited Conflict Textiles curator Roberta Bacic to give an insight into the work of Conflict Textiles and to facilitate a workshop on making arpilleras.

Outcome: | The project team from 'Waking the Land' attended the morning-long workshop at ^ in Manorhamilton. The attendees included six artists who are working collaboratively on the project, and two guests. Conflict Textiles curator Roberta Bacic discussed the history of arpilleras and their evolution since 1975. The project team then engaged in a workshop creating arpilleras, sharing space while discussing stories that related to the project and to their personal artistic work.
The 'Waking the Land' team later discussed the morning and now plan to create an arpillera collaboratively as one of the project outcomes, to be completed by September 2023. |
