Seminar (online):Tras las Huellas de las Arpilleras / Following the footsteps of the Arpilleras
Description: This seminar will focus on tracing the emergence of the arpilleras within the Conflict Textiles collection with students on the “Jewish Women Writers of Latin America” course, facilitated by Professor Marjorie Agosin, Spanish Department, Wellesley College. In preparation for the seminar, students have been invited to view three short films as in advance.

Curator Roberta Bacic will deliver the session in Spanish and will initially bring students through the CAIN Conflict Textiles archive. Focusing specifically on the arpilleras listed in the 'textiles' section below, she will engage students in an in depth conversation on the power of arpilleras and other conflict textiles and memorabilia as testimonies, resistance, memory and survival.
Commissioned by: Faculty of Spanish, Wellesley College, Massachusetts, USA
Date(s): 27th April 2021 - 27th April 2021
Venue: Online
106 Central St, Wellesley, MA 02481, United States
Curator: Roberta Bacic
Facilitator: Professor Marjorie Agosin
Outcome: Students engaged fully in this session. It gave them a deep understanding of the origins, layers of meaning and power of arpilleras and other conflict textiles and memorabilia as testimonies, resistance, memory and survival. Furthermore, it gave them an insight into the Conflict Textiles physical and online collection and its status as a live archive; an archive that complements Marjarie Agosin's pioneering research and publications on arpilleras and arpilleristas. The session also provided inspiration for their own writing and research in the future.
