Exhibition and associated activities:Neo Norte
Description: In a world with much instability, paradigms start to vanish. Latin America is a continent developed by multiple migrations, prevailing in a constant process of deconstruction and reconstruction. What prevails (and differentiates it from ‘first world countries’) is that it is one of the last places of the world where people have not lost their passion, their connection with the earth, the haptic approach and crafts.

Hence a creative collective, on exhibit at the University of the Arts London (UAL), 15th – 18th June, reframes Latin American’s value. Referencing Joaquín Torres García, it positions it as the New North of ideas and invites attendees to ponder the question: "who determines where is the north"?

The exhibition launch takes place at 7pm on Thursday 9th August.

Associated activities will be finalised nearer the time of exhibition.

Outcome: Neo Norte has been one of the most visited exhibitions of the year at Fundación Cultural de Providencia, Santiago, Chile. As a result of a series of activities facilitated by the Latinos Creative Society from the University of the Arts London, Tere Chad, the curator, gathered a group of 16 artists to position Latin America as the new creative direction. A group of Latin American and other artists with great interest in their culture responded to the 4 topics displayed on the exhibition: migrations, syncretism, natural versus digital and shamanism. The show also attempted to question why, after 200 years of independence, eurocentric curatorial practices still prevail in Latin America, hence the decision to include pieces that represented the ethnic, western, and folkloric language in the same space. During the exhibition the panel discussion, guided tours, and collage workshop were well attended and provided a space for exploring the various exhibition themes.
