Exhibition and associated activities: | The Human Cost of War - An Exhibition of Quilts and Arpilleras |
Description: | "The Human Cost of War" was originally exhibited at the Imperial War Museum, London in November 2009 for Armistice Day and subsequently at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace, and finally at Whitechapel Gallery. It was commissioned by the Movement for the Abolition of War.
This exhibition draws heavily on the London based exhibition and includes a selection of textile pieces created by women from across the world. The pieces address various forms of conflict and war as experienced by women from across the globe.

Outcome: | The exhibition was accompanied by a series of workshops and events related to the theme of conflict and war. (Photographs taken at various workshops, 4th - 12th November 2010). One such event -Textile Installation on Afghanistan- took place in the Verbal Arts Centre (Photographs of launch of Textile Installation, 8th November 2010). A short film was produced by Cahal McLaughlin; with music by Víctor Henríquez, [4'28"]Response to 'Human Cost of War'. Overall, the exhibition contributed to a deep exchange of ideas, experiences and collaborative which seeded a range of subsequent events with many of the partners involved. |
