Permanent rotating exhibition:Conflict Textiles collection: Verbal Arts Centre
Description: On international Women’s day, 8th March 2008 the exhibition, “The Art of Survival: International and Irish Quilts”, was launched at the Verbal Arts Centre. Building on this momentum, the Verbal Arts Centre, in collaboration with Chilean curator and human rights advocate Roberta Bacic, has hosted 33 textile exhibitions since 2008 on a permanent rotating basis. Textiles on display were largely drawn from the Conflict Textiles collection; an international collection of quilts, arpilleras and wall hangings, developed by Roberta over the last three decades.

Given the breadth and depth of this collection and the success of the permanent rotating exhibition, 2008-2014, it was agreed in 2015, that two pieces exclusively from the Conflict Textiles collection, will be permanently exhibited at the Verbal Arts Centre on a six-month rotating basis.

A number of Verbal Arts Centre staff are involved in this exhibition: Sinead McLaughlin, Administrative Officer; James Kerr, Executive Director and Rory McCarron, Media Producer.
This is a collaborative venture with Roberta Bacic, independent Curator, collector and custodian of Conflict Textiles collection, assisted by Breege Doherty.
