| Description: | Artist’s statement:
“We continue to live with our past, the agonies of people, the families caught up in “The Troubles”. My piece lists those Disappeared between 1972 and 1985. I have quilted a shamrock in the centre to reference Ireland. In a pocket on the back are replacement numbers for those found in the hope that more of the disappeared will be discovered.”
Irene’s contribution on textile art on the disappeared dates from 2012 when she produced Disappeared, to commemorate the disappeared in Argentina for the exhibition RETAZOS TESTIMONIALES: arpilleras de Chile y otras latitudes/TESTIMONIAL SCRAPS: arpilleras from Chile and other parts of the world. Since then it has been displayed with other pieces in 7 different exhibitions and travelled to 6 different countries.
In 2019 she produced Where Are They? This art work has been displayed in 4 different exhibitions, in 3 different countries and was donated by Conflict Textiles; to Ulster Museum in 2022 to be part of their permanent collection. It was in the context of a wider donation that marked International Human Rights Day 2022: Embracing Human Rights |
