| Workshop, Guided tour and Associated activities: | International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances 2024 |
| Description: | The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances has been marked since the 30th August 2010. The UN General Assembly expressed its deep concern about the increase in enforced or involuntary disappearances in various regions of the world and it adopted resolution 65/209 with the votes of the member states.
Conflict Textiles has at its core the struggle for the disappeared and marks this date every year.
This year will be invitiation only as we want to approach the topic with people who have worked closely with the subject from different disciplines. It will include a visit to gallery 3 in the museum as the event is an associated activity to the exhibition: 'Threads of Empowerment: Conflict Textiles's International Journey'.
The exhibition includes several arpilleras and other textiles on the topic and we shall reflect on them.
Finally we will add a hands on element to roundup the experience. |

| Outcome: | The event on 30 August to mark International Day of the Disappeared was held in Ulster Museum. Part of the gathering took place in gallery 3 in front of the arpilleras and other textiles about the disappeared.
Participants paired with somebody they did not know before and reflected and tried to put themselves in the position of talking to a relative of a disappeared, the artist who made one of the pieces on display and as somebody working for an institution that works on this matter.
The conversation was mediated by an arpillera doll taken from previous workshops. As one of the participants said: " It allowed a close reflection", another said: "it was a bonding activity and certainly very moving". |
