Exhibition and associated activities:Outbound ticket / Boleto de ida
Description: The exhibition Boleto de ida, by illustrator Cecilia Zabaleta, invites us to navigate through the channels of a persistent and uprooted migrant memory, using a visual and artistic language that reinforces the connection between concepts such as migration, roots, searching, solidarity, resilience, the value of life and the endless yearning for peace.

Cecilia’s Basque grandfather, aged 19, was one of the 2,200 Spanish refugees fleeing the Franco regime, who boarded the SS Winnipeg and arrived at the port of Valparaiso, Chile on 3 September 1939. This humanitarian endeavour was arranged by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda in his capacity as Chilean Special Consul in Paris for Immigration. On arrival in Chile, the refugees were offered asylum and the majority of them went on to build a new life

Through personal narratives and by uncovering the memory of her refugee grandfather, Cecilia invites us to understand and acknowledge the experiences of other survivors of this human journey. She uses a clear and evocative language based on illustration, collage and creations in acrylic, punctuated with captions, documentary footage and photographs.

Conflict Textiles contribution to this exhibition is comprised of two arpilleras En el lado “bueno” de la valla / On the “Good" Side of the Fence and Bienvenida a las personas refugiadas - Identificándose con ellas
