Online exhibition and associated activities: | Conflict, Peace: Our journey, our future |
Description: | This exhibition, commissioned by Causeway Coast and Glen's Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme, is framed around three core annual events:
• Good Relations Week, 14th – 21st September, which, this year, is focused on “Celebrating Our Journey, Embracing Our Future”.
• International Day of Peace, 21st September, with “Shaping Peace Together” as the emphasis for 2020
• International Day of Non-Violence, 2nd October, coinciding with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. The 2020 theme is “Climate Action: Gandhian Ways”,
From this broad framework, the textiles (arpilleras, quilts and wall hangings) drawn from Northern Ireland and globally invite reflection on the journey, often circuitous, towards sustainable peace. They also prompt us to consider the individual and collective actions we need to take to secure a peaceful, sustainable future.
