Online exhibition: | "A Museum For Me", part of the Culture Unconfined Festival |
Description: | A Museum for Me is a unique nexus of virtual and physical spaces created by human rights researchers at the University of Liverpool, with museologists, NGOs, artists, and activists in Colombia and the UK. In "A Museum for Me", victims and survivors of the armed conflict take centre-stage; their representation (or indeed, invisibility) is scrutinised and re-cast; gendered or identity-based forms of violence - and resistance - are revealed; and stories of the silenced are communicated gently or broadcast loudly, through myriad, life-affirming, cultural and social forms of truth-telling and creative peace-building.
A Museum for Me includes: Workshop for making your own mini-museum; Listening Space for personal testimonies; Exhibition Space for visual forms of communicating Memory and Truth (including the Conflict Textiles Colombian Collection); Performance Space for music, poetry, dance, and multimedia expression; Discussion Space for dialogue between social actors; and Learning Space, an open archive of learning and research resources on Memory, Victims, and Representation of the Colombian Conflict.
Within the Exhibition Space, Conflict Textiles has contributed six Colombian Textiles. This section also includes links to a virtual tour of:
1) The current Conflict Textiles exhibition Embracing Human Rights: Conflict Textiles’ Journey featuring arpilleras from around the world, facilitated by Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Limavady, Northern Ireland.
2) The Arpillera Doll Virtual Exhibition which features 38 arpillera dolls so far submitted by makers all over the world, each doll made in response to a textile from the online exhibition.
The Conflict Textiles contribution is featured in the Exhibition Space at "A Museum for Me" as part of the Culture Unconfined Festival of the University of Liverpool 11-17th May 2020. The exhibition extends to July 2021 for "A Museum for Me" themed exhibitions on Memory, Victims and Representations of the Colombian Conflict. |
