Geraldine invites us to journey with the steam locomotive the “Otter.” It was acquired in 1898 and transported materials from the Tullyoughter limestone quarry to the Whiting Mill via a three kilometre long railway line, crossing Carnlough River on a trestle bridge. Geraldine stitched this arpillera during workshops linked to the exhibition Stitching and Unstitching the Troubles I and II, 2012/2013.
In these weekly workshops, women had the opportunity through the medium of textile, to explore and record their memories of this tumultuous period in Northern Ireland; The Troubles.
