Exhibition and associated activities: | Threads of Life: Quilts and arpilleras that speak out |
Description: | The Guinness Liverpool Irish Festival hosted this exhibition of textiles. The pieces were created by a variety of community groups and individuals, who have used their craft to express their thoughts and feelings.
The exhibition comprised a number of traditionally-crafted quilts from Ireland and England, covering topics such as daily, family and community life. Some of these pieces were created by women directly affected during the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland; arpilleras from Latin America were also included. |

Outcome: | This exhibition programme gave viewers and commissioners the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the breadth and depth of issues articulated via textile format, introducing them also to the arpillera world. Overall, it started a dialogue and set in process the groundwork for subsequent exhibitions and the creation of new arpilleras |
