Film screening and associated events: | Retazos de Vida / Scraps of Life - a documentary Film by Gayla Jamison |
Description: | This documentary Film by Gayla Jamison highlights the struggle of Chilean women against the repressive dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. It was complemented by an exhibition of 12 Chilean arpilleras and is part of a wider programme of political film and theatre with a focus on Chile. Presentation of the film in Spanish takes place on June 12th. Three Chilean political plays were staged from 27th May to 14th June 2014 in the MAC, Belfast as part of this Chilean season of political theatre with local company Prime Cut, to which University of Ulster contributed an extracurricular programme. A post-play debate on the theme of “Women in post conflict” took place immediately after the staging of “Villa” & “Discurso” on May 29th. A pre-play roundtable discussion “Making memories” accompanied “Tejas Verdes” on June 3rd.
On June 19th & 20th, 7.30pm, these plays were staged in Culturlann, Great James Street, Derry/Londonderry.
On the 10th June an arpillera workshop was facilitated by Roberta Bacic and Marlene Milner for Lighthouse and Community Dialogue Men's Photography Group. On Tuesday 19th August all the participants met at the MAC to receive the finished piece and have an evaluation session of their work and achievements. |
