Curatorial visit: | Visit to Oshima Hakko Museum by Roberta Bacic to assist in the documentation of a set of 88 Chilean arpilleras formerly held in storage by the museum. |
Description: | Dr. Roberta Bacic, human rights activist, by invitation of Oshima Hakko Museum, visited Japan in February 2012 for the purpose of studying and researching the arpilleras collection in the Oshima Hakko Museum. This visit was facilitated by Dr. Tomoko Sakai, Lecturer, Tohoku Gakuin University, Tomomitsu Oshima, M.D. Director Oshima Hakko Museum and Sonoko Kobayashi, Administrative Officer, Oshima Hakko Museum. Roberta has previously visited Japan, having curated an arpilleras exhibition in Osaka in October 2010 "Stitching Resistance - Narratives of Daily Life in Chilean Arpilleras" organized by Dr. Tomoko Sakai. As part of the 2013 study visit, Dr. Bacic delivered a lecture at Oshima Hakko Museum on February 16, 2013 titled: "Chilean arpilleras and poetry."
