Press Release on the Inquiry into the Dublin, Monaghan and Dundalk bombings, from the Department of the Taoiseach, Dublin
11 November 2001

The Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Dublin, Monaghan and Dundalk bombings was established in January 2000 and the late Chief Justice Liam Hamilton was appointed sole member. Mr. Hamilton was forced by ill-health to withdraw from the Commission in October last [2000] and sadly died in November [2000]. Retired Supreme Court Judge Henry Barron was appointed [in October 2000] to replace Judge Hamilton.

The Commission has interviewed a number of persons who were in a position to assist in its enquiries. A very considerable amount of investigative work has been undertaken by the Group, "Justice for the Forgotten", which has been of considerable assistance to the Commission. Advertisements have been placed this week-end in the newspapers inviting anyone else who may be in a position to assist to come forward. While a considerable time lapse has occurred since these awful events the memory of what occurred still seems fresh in many peoples' minds. It is hoped that there will be a worthwhile response to this appeal for information.
