'Remembering': Victims, Survivors and Commemoration
List of Seminars and Other Events on Topics Related to Victims, 2006-2009
compiled by Martin Melaugh (2009) |
The following is a list of some of the public lectures, seminars, and other events that were held in Northern Ireland, about issues related to victims. This list covers the period corresponding to the lifetime of the CAIN / AHRC-funded project (1 October 2006 - 31 March 2009). The list is not comprehensive but it is presented here to provide an illustration of the extent of the public debate that was taking place during this period on victims-related issues.
If anyone has information on any other relevant events please contact the CAIN Director.
There is a separate list containing information on the CAIN / AHRC seminar series.

'Dialogue Event'
'Stories in Conflict', a short film on storytelling and dialogue.
This year, Towards Understanding and Healing have created a DVD illustrating their processes of storytelling and dialogue. Storytelling and dialogue bring together people who have been affected by the Troubles to talk about its legacy in their lives and to discuss key issues stemming from the conflict. The film features the processes at work; and includes a wide range of voices, from ex-combatants to those injured and bereaved from all sides. A short time of dialogue and discussion will follow the screening of the film, and Towards Understanding and Healing staff will be on hand to talk about training resources for storytelling and dialogue work. This event is open to all, but may be of particular use for community workers who are interested in using storytelling and dialogue in their work. |

An Exhibition of Chilean 'arpilleras ’
Arpilleras (pronounced 'ar-pee-air-ahs) are threee dimensional applique textiles of Latin America. They would be described generally as 'quilts' or 'wall-hangings'. The arpilleras were handcrafted by women in Chile as a way of telling stories of a struggle for truth and justice during Pinochet's dictorship from 1973 to 1990. The exhibition is the first event leading up to the launch of a major exhibition titled 'The Art of Survival, International and Irish Quilts'. |
