Internment
Internment was introduced on 9 August 1971. This particular security response was one that was recommended to the British government by Unionists in the Stormont government. Internment was mainly used against the Catholic community and proved to be a political and security disaster. Violence increased dramatically after Internment had been introduced. The painting depicts a number of scenes of arrests and 'raids' on houses during the early period of Internment.
