This | Memorial Garden | was officially opened | by | His Royal Highness | The Duke of York | Colonel in Chief | on 7th October 2000 | | "Under Binevenagh's watchful eye | sits the 5th Battalion Memorial; | cut from South African granite | and resting on Kilkeyy limestone, | it lies within a peaceful hollow | formed on the Regimental Flash. | | This Memorial is guarded | by four upright Irish yews, | each representing soldiers, | resting on their arms reversed; | the golden yew marks the service given | by the women of the 5th Battalion. | | The sheltering groves of native trees | and the calm found within the Shamrock | provide tranquillity for reflection | on loyal service, given by so many | to their Community." | | Colonel C A C Heron OBE 28th June 2000 | | This Memorial has bee created | by kind donations | from friends of the Battalion | and with the support | of the 8th Infantry Brigade. | | "Faugh A Ballagh"

British soldiers of the 5th (Co. Londonderry) Battalion Royal Irish Regiment (27th Inniskilling, 83rd and 87th) and the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR).

Location Guide:
Area just outside the graveyard of Ballykelly Church of Ireland, Parish of Tamlaghtfinlagan. Memorial garden is accessed from the car park at the front of the church.
