daimler | fleetline bus | 1973 | Citybus Ltd., | Belfast. | This Fleetline bus was one of a batch of seventy Daimler | double-deck buses, supplied, in 1973, with 77-seat | bodies built by Alexanders of Belfast. This bus entered | service on 19 Januay 1973 as Fleet No 857. | The bus was later renumbered, Fleet No. 2857, in the | Citybus fleet list. In November 1974 the bus was hi-jacked and burned. It was returned to Alexanders who | rebodied it with this 88-seat body, and it returned to | service on 16 April 1976. More recently this bus was | used for city tours and private hire work. | This bus is an "OMO" bus - one man operation - one | man carrying out the duties of both driver and | conductor. The diesel engine is located at the back of | the bus which made access for maintenance easier. | On 31 March 1994 No 2857 was finally withdrawn | from service. | The bus has been restored by Citybus and presented to | the Museum in memory of all company staff who were | injured or died in the recent Troubles | Registration No. EOI 4857 |
