When complete the above links will provide a chronology for the years 1997 to 2009, containing details of matters related to the issue of victims, survivors and commemoration of the Northern Ireland conflict.

Currently there are chronologies for the period, 1 October 2006 to 31 March 2009. This period corresponds to the lifetime of the AHRC-funded project and entries for this period are more detailed than the forthcoming entries prior to 1 October 2006.

The year 1997 was chosen as the start date as this coincides with the time that the British government took a more proactive role on the issue of victims and survivors.

This chronology does not include details of all the deaths that occur during this period. These are covered in the main CAIN chronology. Rather this chronology covers events directly related to the issue.
