Introduction to Christmas Cards
Christmas cards (239 examples)
Following on the introduction of Internment, in 1971, groups such as the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA), Sinn Fein and subsequently, the various Loyalist groups, produced a number of cards in support of the prisoners and their families. There is a long history in Ireland of such cards being produced from drawings smuggled out of prison to raise awareness of the prisoners cause and to raise funds for the prisonersÂ’ dependants.
In recent years, the Connolly Association has produced cards on a wider variety of political themes.
Some of these cards were produced for Easter and May Day commemorations.
