Introduction to Badges
Badges (572 examples)
Badges are a cheap, mass produced, method of communication. They can confer identity with a political group and support for or against a particular campaign issue. The badges within this collection cover a wide variety of political campaigns and are from a great number of political groups.
In type, they range from the common aluminium with a celluloid cover to more elaborate enamelled varieties. Some have had a very long shelf life, such as example 11 produced by the Connolly Association in the mid seventies and still available. Many were made for one off events or commemorations such as badge 352. A few, such as example 399 are quite unique.
There is a very large selection on the prison struggle (134 examples, of which 59 deal with the hunger strikes). Also, there are 154 examples of Loyalist badges.
