Introduction

Photo of Des O'HaganDes O'Hagan (29 March 1934 - 5 May 2015) was arrested and interned without trial in August 1971. He wrote a series of articles about the experiences of the internees, which were smuggled out of the Long Kesh internment camp by his wife Marie. The articles were published by The Irish Times newspaper under the title 'Letter from Long Kesh', from 15 January to 1 July 1972. His articles helped to draw attention to the issue of internment. In September 2012 the series of letters were published in booklet format by Citizen Press in Dublin.
