Before a British soldier could go on tour in Northern Ireland he needed to complete a four month specialised training course. This course covered policing, patrolling, close quarter combat, fitness, politics, first-aid, more fitness and then some more fitness just to make sure. He, with all the other members of his regiment, were then tested by command to see if they could cope with the unique difficulties faced by soldiers on tour in Northern Ireland. (Paul Crispin) |
