This arpillera belongs to a series of three big arpilleras, the complete size of a flour sack, with a specific focus on each. This particular piece depicts dwellers in a shantytown community of Santiago going about their daily routines, engaged in a myriad of family, community and economic activities. In this arpillera, the market is the focal point, where goods are bought and sold, news is exchanged, plans are made and families, ever resourceful in this shantytown community, find a means to survive.
