| Description: | This workshop has been arranged as part of the Collecting the Troubles and Beyond project within National Museums NI, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The aim of the project is to widen the scope of the collection through greater academic and community engagement and to ensure that the collection can be used to support a full and inclusive narrative.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to arpilleras and examples of how women in conflict situations have used this technique to communicate their experiences. Participants will then have the opportunity to make their own arpillera doll.
Workshop participants will be offered a tour of the Troubles gallery and the Conflicting Images exhibition at the Ulster Museum.

| Outcome: | Eight women participated in this workshop. It has showcased the use of textile language in countries that have experienced conflict and familiarised staff and visitors with different textile traditions. It provided a useful introduction to the subject, which will be developed further as the Ulster Museum will be exhibiting a quilt and arpillera in the Troubles gallery from spring 2018. |
