Exhibition:The Killarney Girls' Arpilleras
Description: Through these arpilleras, the Killarney girls of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe have depicted the devastating consequences for them of the government led Operation Murambatsvina (get rid of the filth), in which 500,000 were evicted and displaced within the space of a month.

This exhibition was part of a continuous series of arpillera and quilt exhibitions hosted by the Verbal Arts Centre in Derry and curated by Roberta Bacic, from 2008 to 2013. Each exhibition, comprised of a piece or pieces created by community groups from different parts of the island, other countries, or individual women, was displayed for a number of weeks before being replaced with a new exhibition.
Commissioned by: Verbal Arts Centre
Date(s): 22nd August 2012 - 28th October 2012
Venue: Verbal Arts Centre, Derry / Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Stable Lane and Mall Wall, Bishop Street Within, Derry/Londonderry, BT48 6PU, Northern Ireland
Curator: Roberta Bacic
Facilitator: Verbal Arts Centre staff
Outcome: The process of creating this arpillera has enabled these women to share their stories, with confidence and purpose, to audiences far beyond the Killarney settlement. Exhibiting in the Verbal Arts Centre has deepened connections with quilters in Northern Ireland who have been suporting these women since 2010.
