Launch of exhibition: 'Stitching and Unstitching The Troubles - phase 1', Coleraine, Sept. 2012

 

Exhibition and associated activities:Stitching and Unstitching The Troubles-phase 1
Description: This exhibition explores the multi-layered impact of conflict and its aftermath with a central emphasis on The Troubles in Northern Ireland. Through portraying current and historical conflicts in different parts of the world, over different decades, this collection of textiles, from Northern Ireland, England, Spain, Chile, Peru and Colombia, invites reflection on a range of issues: violence, death, denial, loss, disappearances, hunger strikes, displacement, resistance, the role of the church and transition to democracy.

Phase one of this two phase programme of exhibitions and workshops incorporates a series of related events:
1.Guided tours and textile making activity with Roberta Bacic and textile artist Marlene Milner, 10th September 2012, 11am - 4pm & 24th September 2012, 6.30pm - 9.00pm.
2.Conversation with textile artist, Irene MacWilliam, 15th September 2012
3.In depth Arpillera workshop with Deborah Stockdale, 11am - 5pm.
4.International Day of Peace event, 7pm Council Chamber, Coleraine Town Hall, 21st September 2012. Guests include Mairead Corrigan, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and singer Tony Kempster from the International Peace Bureau. A new book, edited by INNATE, "My Kind of Nonviolence", will be launched at the event.
