Exhibition and associated activities:Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive Women
Description: “Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive Women” brings together many threads of connection. It marks the 15th anniversary of Conflict Textiles inaugural exhibition The Politics of Chilean Arpilleras (8th February 2008 - 19th April 2008). It builds on a ten year plus collaborative relationship with Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc which has progressed from exhibiting each other’s textiles to co-curated exhibitions such as #ChildrensRights / #DerechosdelNiño / #DretsdelsInfants (2020 - 2021). “Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive Women” is the second co-curated exhibition and adds a new dimension to the Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc exhibition Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive Women (Badalona, 2019).

Through a selection of arpilleras from the Conflict Textiles and Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc collections (see textile list), we are introduced to disruptive women worldwide: women who have pushed the boundaries of societal expectations of women; women who have broken the mould; women who have challenged and denounced violence and human rights abuses; women who have supported each other in their demands for justice and fairness. Above all, this exhibition nudges us to consider our pre conceived ideas of disruption.

The exhibition trail, which is announced in the Tower Museum with a display of archive material and an arpillera, takes place across three venues:
-Flowerfield Arts Centre, the location for Arpilleras that Cry Out (2009) will feature the bulk of the exhibition.
-A number of pieces will also be displayed within two of our Permanent rotating exhibition spaces Conflict Textiles collection: Magee Campus Library, Ulster University and
The Troubles and Beyond in Ulster Museum.

The launch at Flowerfield takes place at 1pm on Wednesday 8 February.

Textiles from Conflict Textiles collection are linked in the 'Textiles displayed' section below. Fundació Ateneu Sant Roc textiles can be viewed at the following links (Catalan):

Outcome: Mujeres Disruptivas / Disruptive Women enabled Flowerfield Arts Centre on the North Coast to be part of a ‘journey’ exhibition with the Tower Museum, Derry, Ulster University, Derry~Londonderry campus, and the Ulster Museum, Belfast, in partnership with Conflict Textiles. The selected arpilleras displayed allowed viewers to understand and explore the history of women’s rights, equality and conflict across cultures and communities.
