Forum:Forum Internacional de Arpilleras / Arpilleras International Forum
Description: This International Forum will be hosted in three locations - Bilbao, Donostia, Gernika –from 25th to 28th February 2016. It is part of the programme of activities connected to the exhibition “COSIENDO PAZ: Conflicto, Arpilleras, Memoria / STITCHING PEACE: Conflict, Arpilleras, Memory,” which, at present, is exhibited in the Fundación Museo de la Paz de Gernika.

The Forum is also part of the calendar of events of the Donostia / San Sebastian 2016: European Capital of Culture. The city’s year long tenure is symbolised by the “The Artivist sailing”: Artheraphy and Artivism” concept, which envisages an imaginary vessel navigating the seas of: Civil Rights and Duties, Human Rights and Duties and Environmental Rights and Duties.

Outcome: The Forum enabled a sharing of arpilleras language/testimonies through discussions and networking at the level of arpilleristas, academia, museums, school curriculum and art therapy.Photographs

Over two afternoons, we had the opportunity to experience first hand the practice of making arpilleras. From this, two collective arpilleras emerged; a material testimony of our time together. Both arpilleras “Bienvenida a los refugiados / Welcome refugees: Identificándose con éstos” and “Bienvenida a los refugiados / Welcome refugees: Pancarta para acciones no-violentas. ” together with their accompanying narratives are included in the documents section below:
