Description:This project set out to examine divided societies which have a limited level of violence. It was based on a close study of the Northern Irish conflict and its second phase examined controls in other ethnic conflict fields. Initial findings suggest a range of military, paramilitary, social and infrastructural controls in Northern Ireland. The main problems encountered have been determining criteria by which other conflicts might be selected, and finding sufficient time to carry out such comparisons.

It also looks at whether increasing levels of participation have had positive repercussions in the graduate labour market, in terms of fair employment objectives and gender equality, and whether there is any evidence that higher education has had a positive impact on community relations.
