Ardoyne Avenue, Belfast
A century and a half after the Great Famine (an Gorta Mór in Gaelic), a number of murals commemorating the event were painted in nationalist areas. One such mural, in Ardoyne Avenue, North Belfast, painted in the summer of 1997, quotes a line from a poem by Seamus Heaney: ‘They buried us without shroud nor coffin’.
